Legg regains independence at Desert Cove Nursing Center

Seventy-two-year-old Beverly Legg is still working at Fry's Food Store, even after having a total left hip replacement.

It was Desert Cove Nursing Center that helped Legg get back on her feet after the surgery. Legg came to the skilled nursing and rehab center on March 1, 2018, needing extensive help to get dressed and some help to walk, groom herself and bathe.

Physical and occupational therapists worked with Legg six days a week to increase her independence quickly. They taught her precautions for her hip. Physical therapists used therapeutic exercises for strengthening, as well as having her do gait and balance training. Occupational therapists worked with her on self-care skills and basic homemaking skills like cooking.

"Beverly was always willing to work hard to reach her goals," said Andrea Vogt, director of rehab services.

"Everyone was so kind and thoughtful," said Legg. "Their special way – the nurses, the therapists, the staff – has helped me get well. Thank you so much. This is a heavenly place."

Legg is now able to walk more than 250 feet with a walker and is independent in getting around, getting dressed and grooming.
