Rimrock Villa Convalescent Hospital helps Compton regain independence

When Charmein Compton came to Rimrock Villa Convalescent Hospital on Dec. 27, 2016, she was recovering from septic shock and spinal surgery.

When she began rehabilitation, she could not walk or bathe, she required extensive assistance getting into bed and dressing and she needed moderate assistance sitting. Compton made the decision to work hard and get back on her feet.

"If you want something bad enough, you will get it, but you have to work for it," said Compton.

Physical and occupational therapists worked with Compton five days a week, using E-stim, a Barihab^™ table and the Omnicycle^™ exercise machine to help her regain her strength and range of motion. The therapy team also applied manual techniques, including joint mobilization, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation, a stretching technique that improves elasticity in muscles, and myofascial release, a holistic approach to physical therapy, to aid in Compton's recovery.

"Charmein is a hard-working and dedicated human being," said Denise Kuhn, director of rehab. "She committed to working as hard as she could on a daily basis, and she experienced excellent results. We feel honored that she values us enough to share her experience and to return to our facility as a visitor on a regular basis."

On April 9, 2017, Compton was able to return home requiring minimal assistance in bathing; supervision for walking, dressing and managing medication; and completely independent in all of her other activities of daily living.
