Ketchum rehabs at Life Care of Colorado Springs after knee replacement

When Silvia Ketchum had a total knee replacement, she chose to do her rehabilitation at Life Care Center of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Ketchum arrived on Sept. 9, 2017. When she started her therapy program, she needed extensive assistance with walking, bed mobility, bathing, getting dressed, balancing while standing and transferring from one surface to another (such as from a bed to a chair).

Physical and occupational therapists worked with Ketchum five days a week to help her get back to her usual mobility and independence. In physical therapy, she focused on her mobility and getting her range of motion back in her knee. To help with that, therapists had her use the AlterG^® Anti-Gravity Treadmill^®, which allows patients to practice their gait and exercise without putting as much pressure on joints. In occupational therapy, she worked on her activities of daily living, such as self-care, cooking, cleaning and even grocery shopping, improving her ability to be self-sufficient.

Now, Ketchum is fully independent with the help of a rolling walker. She returned home on Oct. 18 and continued her physical therapy as an outpatient until Feb. 8, 2018.
