Life Care Center of Rochester helps local heart patient recover

Kenneth Warmbrod came to Life Care Center of Rochester, Indiana, for rehabilitation after a bout with atrial fibrillation caused him to become very weak.

When Warmbrod arrived on Nov. 25, 2016, he had trouble with balance and walking, in addition to overall strength. He was in pain and would get headaches when he stood up.

Therapists worked with Warmbrod for four weeks to restore his ability to take care of himself so he could go home. He did physical therapy six days a week, focusing on increasing his strength and balance. Physical therapists did strength training with him and had him use the NuStep^® and Omnicycle^™ seated exercise machines to improve his activity endurance.

Warmbrod worked with occupational therapists five days a week on self-care skills so he could improve his ability to get dressed, bathe and groom himself.

Therapists also assisted with his pain management and educated Warmbrod and his family on strategies to increase his independence at home.

"I had a good time," said Warmbrod. "I would have liked to stay longer, but I'm happy to be going home to my family."

Warmbrod returned to his home on Dec. 15, able to take care of himself better and walk and stand on his own with supervision.
