Cade regains her strength with therapy at The Woodlands

When Rutha Cade came to The Woodlands in Muncie, Indiana, on Oct. 20, 2017, she was suffering from general weakness and confusion.

Physical, occupational and speech therapies helped change that.

At first, Cade required assistance to walk, transfer from one surface to another (such as from a bed to a wheelchair), balance and all her activities of daily living, such as grooming, bathing and getting dressed. She also had pain in both shoulders.

While speech therapists worked with Cade on cognitive skills, occupational therapists worked with her on regaining her ability to take care of herself. Physical therapists did strengthening exercises with her, using weights and resistance bands as well as the Omnicycle^™ exercise machine.

"They have done very well," said Cade of her therapists. "They challenged me when I needed to be, and I did more than I thought I could."

"Rutha was extremely motivated to attend therapy sessions and follow through with therapy recommendations," said Dawn Wadman, occupational therapist.

Cade returned home on Nov. 29, independent once again and able to walk short distances.
