Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease had significantly weakened Donna Barger.
Barger came to The Woodlands in Muncie, Indiana, on July 7, 2017, for help restoring her strength. When she arrived, she was walking with a four-wheeled walker only up to 100 feet and required assistance with daily tasks like getting dressed, bathing and grooming.
Physical, occupational and speech therapists worked with Barger five days a week to get her back to her independent lifestyle and help her manage her COPD. She did upper- and lower-body exercises, as well as balance exercises to make sure she was ready to walk without the walker. The Omnicycle™ machine also allowed her to work on her strength and endurance while seated.
"Donna is very hardworking and devoted to therapy exercises," said NJ Javeri, physical therapist. "She was highly motivated to become independent."
Barger returned home successfully after just a few weeks, on July 19.
"The therapists have helped me build my confidence and strength," Barger said.
