Life Care Center of Andover helps woman recover from hip replacement

On Dec. 27, 2016, Ruth Weishaar arrived at Life Care Center of Andover, Kansas, for rehabilitation after having a hip replacement.

Weishaar needed extensive assistance to take care of her grooming tasks and to bathe herself, and she needed moderate assistance with other activities of daily living, like feeding herself, managing her medications and getting dressed. She also needed moderate assistance to walk, balance while sitting and standing, roll over in bed and get from one surface to another.

Physical therapists used the NuStep^® seated cross-trainer to help Weishaar regain strength while taking the weight off of her hip, and electrical stimulation to ease her post-surgical pain and promote muscle health. They worked with her six days a week.

Weishaar also went to occupational therapy six days a week to restore her ability to care for herself.

On March 10, 2017, Weishaar returned home able to get around independently with the help of a walker. She only needed supervision for her grooming tasks.

"I really thank my therapists, nurses, aides and anyone who had anything to do with my healing," said Weishaar. "I thank God for the people who care for people."
