When Jean Buck suffered an acute kidney injury in December 2017, she and her family were told she would need long-term care.
"As a long-term care nurse in the community, I could not think of anywhere I trusted more, even though the commute to Life Care Center [of Plainwell, Michigan,] was farther for my family," said Buck's daughter, Kim Chapman. "Mom received excellent care and rehabilitation."
When Buck first arrived, she was unable to do anything on her own and required a mechanical lift to get her out of bed. She also had diabetes and hypertension that needed to be cared for, as well as a wound.
Physical and occupational therapists began working with Buck, and as she recovered from her injury, she started walking and was able to qualify for the heart-valve replacement she needed.
Buck returned home with her husband on May 11, 2018.
"I want to thank Life Care Center of Plainwell for its contribution to my mother's successful life-changing recovery," said Chapman. "She is home and caring for herself independently. She no longer requires oxygen during the day. She makes dinner every night and enjoys life more than she has been able to the last couple of years. She often says she really enjoyed her time at Life Care Center and would definitely go back there if she ever needs help caring for herself."
