Life Care Center of Florissant helps Farmer regain strength

Louis Farmer was very weak when he arrived at Life Care Center of Florissant, Missouri, on Oct. 13, 2017.

Farmer had had a fall at home and started out needing moderate assistance with standing balance and minimal assistance with most of his mobility and self-care skills, from walking to getting in and out of bed, bathing to getting dressed.

Physical and occupational therapists worked with Farmer six days a week, focusing on restoring his independence and his balance. He used the NuStep^® machine to do sitting exercises for his arms, legs and torso, as well as the Omnicycle^™, which also worked out his upper and lower body. Ankle and hand weights helped him regain strength, and therapists did gait training with him and stair training when he was prepared for that challenge.

"I liked therapy," Farmer said. "I always enjoyed when someone came to get me for therapy.

Farmer successfully regained his independence and returned home on Nov. 8.
