Life Care Center of Coos Bay helps Hinds after respiratory failure

Phillip Hinds came to Life Care Center of Coos Bay, Oregon, on July 4, 2017, after suffering from acute and chronic respiratory failure brought on by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Physical and occupational therapists worked with Hinds five times a week to improve his condition. Therapists used NuStep^® and Omnicycle™ exercise equipment to help Hinds regain strength.

"It was great working with Phil," said Tejas Vora, physical therapist. "His high motivation helped a lot in reaching his goals and made everything easy and smooth for both Phil and therapists."

Upon graduating, Hinds was able to walk more than 200 feet and perform transfers with supervision.

"If it wasn't for the rehab department, I would not be where I am today," said Hinds. "I was not able to walk prior, and I now walk with assistance. I am now able to transfer independently and care for myself. The nursing care was great. The food was good. They kept me healthy."

Hinds returned home on July 25.
