Life Care Center of McMinnville helps Muns recover from sudden illness

When Ray Muns came to the emergency room complaining of sudden abdominal pain and pain in his right shoulder, he was diagnosed with an abdominal aortic aneurysm and hemoperitoneum extending throughout his peritoneal cavity.

With blood accumulating between the lining of his abdominal wall and the internal abdominal organs, Muns required further treatment to remove the blood and rehabilitation to restore his strength and independence.

Upon being referred to Life Care Center of McMinnville, Oregon, Muns required total assistance for most activities. With the help of occupational, physical and speech therapists, Muns was able to move forward with his recovery.

"Ray was very motivated to go home and actively participated in multiple therapies every day," said CJ Pacquing-Narvarte, physical therapist assistant. "He never turned down a challenge and always pushed himself to progress."

Occupational therapy worked with Muns on self-care training to improve his ADLs – which stands for activities of daily living. Physical therapy provided him with therapeutic strengthening exercises to increase his mobility. Speech therapy worked with his cognition exercises to increase his awareness and safety.

"Everyone helped me get back to myself again," said Muns. "I can't say enough about the people here. You can't single out any person. Everyone here is great and always encouraging me."

Muns completed therapy and returned home to his wife on Nov. 4, 2018.
