Alderwood Manor helps Clark recover from blood clot in the lung

Cheney, Washington, resident Dorothy Clark needed rehabilitation after developing a pulmonary embolism, a blood clot in the lungs.

She came to Alderwood Manor in Spokane, Washington, on March 21, 2018.

Physical and occupational therapists worked with Clark to regain her full independence. Physical therapy addressed her ability to walk and balance, while occupational therapy focused on helping her regain her ability to take care of activities of daily life like getting dressed and bathing.

Along the way, therapists provided patient education about exercise, diaphragmatic breathing techniques and energy conservation.

"Dorothy worked very hard at her therapy program and made dramatic gains in her strength, balance, mobility and self-care," said Dawn Brekker, physical therapist. "She was a pleasure to work with."

"Therapy increased my confidence to go back home and live independently," said Clark. "I was very pleased with the care I received from aides and nurses. They were here when I needed them."

On April 10, Clark returned home fully mobile once again.
