When Tammy Roberson fractured her left kneecap, she came to Alderwood Manor in Spokane, Washington, for rehabilitation.
When she arrived on Sept. 19, 2017, she needed two people to help her get in and out of bed and take care of her daily self-care tasks, like getting dressed, bathing and grooming. She was unable to walk.
Physical and occupational therapists worked with Roberson six days a week in an intensive treatment to help her reach her goal of going home. Occupational therapists trained her in her self-care activities, while physical therapists had her do therapeutic exercises and worked with her on her range of motion and functional mobility. They also used neuromuscular reeducation to help her move better.
"Tammy worked hard during every treatment and progressed each day," said Tawny Hooley, occupational therapist. "We set goals each treatment, and Tammy gave it her all to achieve them."
Roberson completed therapy on Oct. 9 and returned home on Oct. 10. She was able to walk with a four-wheeled walker and take care of herself with stand-by assistance.
"The stay was fabulous," Roberson said of her time at Alderwood Manor. "The therapy staff and nursing staff were great."
