Cottesmore of Life Care helps Filkins recover from fall and pneumonia

After Lloyd Filkins had a fall at home, he was sent to the emergency room with weakness and pneumonia.

It was Cottesmore of Life Care in Gig Harbor, Washington, that helped him get back on his feet.

Filkins came to the skilled nursing and rehab center on Feb. 23, 2018, for physical and occupational therapies. He needed someone to assist him with his daily activities when he first arrived, and he needed to be independent in order to return home.

Therapists got to work with Filkins on the fast track to recovery – doing therapy sessions seven days a week. They taught him strengthening and balance exercises and worked on increasing his endurance, as well as helping him master his self-care skills once again.

"Mr. Filkins was always motivated and ready to participate with therapy," said Helen Sun, occupational therapist.

"I knew the therapy would be hard, and they fulfilled that promise," said Filkins. "I had pretty outstanding care in all things – the staff is good."

Filkins reached his goals and returned home using a walker on March 23.
