On Sept. 8, 2018, Nancy Davis was admitted to Life Care Center of Escondido, California, after undergoing a lumbosacral fusion, iliac screw replacement, and T9 kyphoplasty.
Prior to her admission, she underwent a back surgery in May 2018 and was placed at a skilled nursing facility close to her home. Unfortunately, Davis experienced several falls during her stay there which caused her to reinjure her back. This led to her most recent back surgery and placement at Life Care Center of Escondido.
Before her back surgeries, Davis was residing in her one-story home with her daughter and son-in-law. She was completely independent in all aspects of her life and required no assistance from family or friends. Because of her motivation to return to her family, friends and home, Davis worked extremely hard to overcome her back pain and fear of not getting better.
"After everything I've gone through, I just want to be back at home," Davis said.
At Life Care Center of Escondido, Davis was experiencing a lot of pain from her surgery, so pain management became a focus.
Throughout many of her days, the pain she was experiencing was on average a 9/10 on the pain scale, but by the last week of her treatment and time at Life Care, her average pain was a 4/10 on the pain scale.
After eight weeks of therapy at Life Care Center of Escondido, Davis was able to return home. Upon arrival, Davis required a moderate amount of help from staff; Davis is now dressing, toileting, performing bed mobility and transferring independently with the use of her front-wheeled walker and the use of adaptive equipment for ADLs.
